SPECIALIST REGISTRATION

The Medical Act 1971 and the Medical Regulations 2017 stipulate that all medical practitioners must be duly registered under the Act in order to practise as specialists and must fulfil the requirements of the Act and the standards set by the Malaysian Medical Council.

The Malaysian Medical Council has established the Specialist Register to keep the database of specialist medical practitioners in the country. Only medical practitioners on the Specialist Register can practice in their respective specialty.

Criteria as referee

  • Referee must have a post-graduate qualification recognized in Malaysia
  • Referee must be a peer or senior professionally
  • Referee must have qualified as a specialist in the specialty for a minimum of 5 years
  • Referee must have worked with/had the opportunity to observe the applicant professionally after candidate completes the training programme
  • Referee must be MMC Specialist Registered except overseas referees
  • Referee must be from the respective specialty / fields of practice
